what's missing

I will admit that I went back to bed this morning.  I was tired from waking at 3:00 am, when sleep eluded me entirely.  I wasn't feeling well - too many back-to-back days at the job without a break had worn me out.  So I laid there in the dark and waited for sleep to find me again.

This house is winterized as much as an old 1860's structure can be, but if you lie quietly you can hear the animal sounds tiptoeing in, slipping under the drafty window sills; an owl hooting to the dawn, a dog howling at the disappearing moon, an opossum family brushing against the dried hydrangeas shrubs and triggering the motion lights in the shed.  Something is missing.

The sound of the snow plow.  We have not seen a single flake of the white stuff since our freakish October storm.  These abnormally warm days are unsettling.  Where is the snow?  I feel cheated.
There hasn't been a lot of time to spend with the things that I love.  That's about to change.  I've made Resolutions.
My 2012 list grows daily.  Bind Hilary's quilt.  Finish Sandy's daughter's present.  Cast on the exquisite Quince & Co worsted.  Finish socks.  Finish Chrissy's hat.  Finish Scott's socks.  Deliver Christmas gifts to MIA friends.  Walk Harley longer and faster.  Remain calm in traffic.  Pray for snow.

Stay away from the fabric store, the online fiber shops, Amazon books and the Sundance catalogue.  Spend more time with family.

BE HAPPY.

Hi Jody, I know just what you mean, the weather is really unsettling. It is suppose to be 76 today. Last monday it was in the 30's. I never know how to dress anymore. I'm sorry to hear you have been having trouble sleeping. I have insomnia too and several times a week I have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. You are being a real trouper. It is really hard to keep up with such a busy schedule and not be fully rested. You have some wonderful resolutions. I have a knitted collar that I want to start for my mother-in-law, made with some really special beaded yarn I purchased when I was in Beaufort. It is a complex pattern though and I keep putting it off. My brain feels like mush. But I am making some progress on my crochet shawl. Hang in there pal, like my Mom used to always say: "Just keep chipping away at the mountain"! :) Delisa

Hi Jody,
I love the new blog design.

Even in N. Michigan we have only had one snow storm that dumped about 8 inches on us. Last week we had a day over 50 degrees and lately it's been in the
40's....weird!

I never make NY resolutions, but I always have a few things in the back of my mind that I want to accomplish or change in the new year. This year it's to entertain more often and I have certainly been doing that for the past few weeks. I just called my SIL's and invited them over for a Valentine dinner. That should be fun.

I have not bought much fabric during the last few months. I want to use up what I have, so I am planning to make aprons for all of my sisters & SIL for next
Christmas. I plan to do some paper pieced designs on each one. It should be fun and should use up a few yards of fabric.

Your resolutions sound like good ones, too!

Luxury is found warm food
and cozy fibers and singing colors.
And especially in friendship and love.
Thank you for sharing it.

How I love the winter. Christmas is finally over. Now I can concentrate on designing the gifts for my good friends. Why is it that the close friends never get theirs BEFORE that day. Like you, I am disappointed for the lack of snow. We have some now, however. But not enough. I love the children's fabrics. If you have scraps.....
get out of bed~~~~
